Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
“The New York legislature finds that students’ ability to learn and to meet high academic standards, and a school’s ability to educate its students, are compromised by incidents of discrimination or harassment including bullying, taunting or intimidation.” New legislation was enacted to foster civility in public schools and to prevent and prohibit conduct which is inconsistent with a school’s educational mission.
Under this legislation: “no student shall be subjected to harassment by employees or students on school property or at a school function; nor shall any student be subjected to discrimination based on a person’s actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, ethnic group, religion, religious practice, disability, sexual orientation, gender (including gender identity or expression) or sex.
Milton School’s DASA Coordinator are Dr. JoAnne Nardone and Mrs. Joana Diaco. If you have concerns, please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org. email@example.com
Milton School serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The school is located in the lovely Sound Shore community of Rye, New York approximately 25 miles north of New York City. The school and community are steeped in a rich historical and cultural tradition. Milton was the first mainland area of Rye to be settled. The Coes, Studwells, Disbrows, and Budds were the original settlers of the early Milton community of the 1660's and 1670's. The Timothy Knapp House, located at the corner of Milton Road and Rye Beach Avenue, was the site of the original Thomas Studwell dwelling.
Milton School alumni are noted for their accomplishments and community service. Many families have had several generations of children attend our school. Two of our illustrious alumnae are Barbara Bush, former First Lady, and Courtenay Becker-Dey, class of 1975 and Olympic Champion.
Milton School is known for its rigorous academic program within a warm, nurturing, environment. Visitors to the school often comment on the friendly, caring ambience they experience as they meet our students, faculty, staff and parents. Our school philosophy centers on respect for oneself, peers, learning and the school environment.
On October 5, 2003 Milton School was awarded a second Blue Ribbon for academic excellence based on the performance of our students in reading and math. Our school/home partnership is critical to our success. The Milton School parent body is highly supportive of our endeavors. The Parent Teacher Organization provides a comprehensive Cultural Arts Program, a Teacher Assistance Program, and a host of educational field trips and morning and after school clubs. Parents, teachers, and administration also collaborate on our Excellence Team. Our students are enjoying their new cafeteria, gymnasium and Big Toys. We are proud of our students' academic success, athletic prowess, musical and artistic talents, and good citizenship. We invite you to visit us!
